We’ve found a new venue for our screening. Providence Public Library at 150 Empire Street will be the place on Thursday night, August 27th at 7:00PM – up in the third floor auditorium. Tickets are $12 at the door.

We just found out that the Columbus Theatre has been CLOSED due to fire code. We’re scrambling to find another venue/date for our screening, so please stay tuned and check back often for more information. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, please bear with us!

Ready for Providence screening

Well, we’re back from NOLA! Stories and photos will be included in a later post, but wanted to let everyone know that the next screening is on Thursday, August 27th at 7:00PM in Providence, RI at the Columbus Theatre on Broadway. Tickets are $12 with partial proceeds being donated to the St. Bernard Parish Community Center, working to rebuild the parish after Katrina.

Come on down and see the film – you will be amazed at the stories. All the folks in New Orleans who saw the stories were completely thrilled with the way the film turned out and you will be too! Hope to see y’all there!

Tomorrow’s the BIG DAY!

Well, it’s finally here! World premiere in New Orleans on Thursday, August 20th at 7:30PM at the Canal Place Mall. We’ve been getting some press in the Times Picayune and on a few local radio stations, so we are hoping for a big crowd!

Our sponsors, Cafe Du Monde and the Positive Vibrations Foundation will be in attendance, along with folks profiled in the movie, and of course the filmmaker and the crew – Q&A after the film screening. Also in attendance will be sponsors Csaba Lukacs and David Lummis, talking about David’s new book about New Orleans going to press in January 2010.

Remember, this is a FREE screening, so we hope to see all of New Orleans there (at least 250 of them, since that’s what the theater seats!)

The date is set – AUGUST 20th!

World premiere screening of Survival, Strength, Starting Over will be on Thursday, August 20th at 7:30PM in New Orleans at the Canal Place Theater in the Canal Place Mall.

The screening will be FREE for all NOLA residents as a thank you to a city working to rebuild, and the filmmaker and crew will speak after the film.

There will also be a catered reception after the show in the mall foyer.

Theater seats 250 so first come first seated, and for any overflow there will be a screening in St. Bernard Parish on the 22nd.

Film release in New Orleans

We’re on our way….getting ready to release a new documentary film by Rhode Island filmmaker Patti Federico about surviving after Katrina.This film t is about survivors of Hurricane Katrina, what they did during the storm, after the storm, and where they are currently.

I was inspired to make this film after visiting New Orleans nearly 3 years after the levees failed.
I worked for an ABC affiliate and couldn’t believe there was still so much to be done and there was no more coverage. People kept coming up to me and telling me their stories and showing me pictures of what used to be their homes.

3 years!!!
I felt that these stories deserved to be heard and thus began the documentary which will be available on DVD august 22, 2009.
The stories are gritty, compelling and keep you on edge. The ending is very different as it shows how, in order to survive, they rely on the compassion of the human spirit to give them hope and strength to restart their lives.
